Hello, I’m John Killebrew, and I started
johnthejunker.com. Get it? My name is John, I
like to collect junk (but I call them treasures) and
this is my web page. I'm from a little town called,
Waverly, Illinois and I've been tearing down old
barns and houses for about 10 years now. I find
so much stuff in these old barns and houses (not to
mention the obvious wood) and I just know other
people would be interested in this stuff, but how
do I let them know I have it? So I thought,
everybody's on the Internet, why not create a web
page to show some of my finds? My wife wants
the "junk" out of our house! I just can't help it, I
save everything I find, and love discovering that
one man's junk really is another man's treasure! I
come across all kinds of treasures from these old
barns and houses like antique hardware, cool old
light fixtures, old time bricks, great big
landscaping stones, old magazines, tractor parts
and vintage dishes, just to name a few!
When I'm not tearing down old barns and houses, I
work as a pipe layer and heavy equipment
operator. That's my "real job". You know, the
one that pays the bills. Every fall, I help a friend
of mine farm his many acres of land. He and I
grow sweet corn and indian corn on his land
which I then sell at my roadside stand. And new
next year, we will be growing pumpkins, wheat
straw and turnips.
The picture top, left shows me in front of my
house with my granddaughter, Adia, our budding
salesgirl, showing off last summer's honey and
pearl sweet corn. Under that picture is my
granddaughter, Hannah, wearing her favorite
johnthejunker.com polo shirt. The next picture
down is Adia and me two years ago selling our
sweet corn and Beardstown, IL watermelons. The
last two pictures are of our world famous indian
corn.
My business is small, and although I do most of
the work myself, my business would not run
without the continual support and assistance from
my family and friends, and especially my tear-
down partner, Dave. I keep business overhead
low so I can sell my products to you, the
customer, at bare minimum prices. I will treat
you fairly and honestly, just the way I would want
to be treated. So send me an e-mail if you have
any questions or are looking for something in
particular. I will do my best to help you out.
